The valley of Ait Bouguemez is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful in Morocco. It’s certainly one of our favorite places – anywhere in the Atlas Mountains! It’s a fairytale landscape of farmers’ fields, and characteristic adobe villages, and has an other-worldliness that draws visitors in search of a mountain escape that combines beauty and rural culture. Tabant, the main village in the valley hosts an excellent Sunday market. The valley (known internationally as “the happy valley”) is the trailhead for an exciting hike up the country’s third-highest peak, Jebel M’goun(4071m). Equally good as a region for easier grades of walking, given the valley’s wide, flat base. Bougmez is worth the extra effort to access as compared to regions closer to Marrakech.

Marrakech drive to Ait Bougeumez valley

• Day 1:  Start your 5 days hike in Ait Bougumez Valley by leaving Marrakech in the morning by 4×4 or minibus and enjoy the ride along the High Atlas Mountain range. The journey continues to the mountain city of Damnat and the natural bridge of Imin Ifri. Now a short drive takes you to the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Beautiful drives crossing many Berber villages and the red valley of Ait Bouelli. You follow the road to reach the village of Arous for lunch in a Gite (1900 m), a short walk in the late afternoon, and back to the guesthouse.
• 4h30minutes drive – 1h walking – 200 m incline – 200m decline – 2km distance

• Day 2: After breakfast walk through the village of Arouse to the terraces of apple trees, grains, vegetables, and alfalfa… Heading along the happy valley, a beautiful green valley. we will be having lunch in our guesthouse, after lunch, we head for another short walk to the source of Aghbalou- n-Ait Imi and back to the Gite.

• Day 3: Enjoy your breakfast we cross the valley to the village of Ibaqullioun to discover some dinosaur footprints and hike Adazen pass(2500m) down to Ifran for lunch. After lunch, we walk up Ait Hkem valley to get to see some Berber villages and stay overnight in Gite in Ait Ouchi.

• Day 4: star our walk following Ait Hkem valley, we pass through many typic villages built using clay. We stop for lunch in the Gite Timite. After lunch, we hike up to visit the site of Sidi-Moussa; a granary and museum as well. It will give you a panoramic view of Happy Valley. walk down to spend the night in Timite village. Enjoy dinner with Oulaid’s family.
• 0h drive – 6h walking – 500 m incline – 200m decline – 14km distance

• Day 5: On the last day in the grain valley of Ait Bouguemez, enjoy your breakfast and drive to Azila. We will stop to visit the Ouzoud waterfalls. There, we enjoy your lunch and continue driving to Marrakech where your 5 days hike in Ait Bougumez Valley ends.
